Give it to God | How to Surrender Your Fears to the Lord
Even as Christians, we can feel the everyday strain of our worries and anxieties. Life gets to us and we start to wonder, "How can I possibly overcome this on my own?" Amid such trying moments, we often hear the phrase "give it to God". But what does this mean exactly - and how can we better live it out?
What does it mean to 'give it to God'?
Often out of human habit, we tend to hold tightly onto our worries and stress, much to the detriment of our health and well-being.
This can lead to prolonged feelings of heaviness that weigh on our hearts. We begin to fall into a cycle of negative thoughts that may start to affect our faith - as well as our relationships with others.
However, the truth is God doesn't wish for us to take on burdens that He has promised to take care of!
So, how can we learn to give it to God, surrendering our fears onto Him?
1. Remember God's promises to you
Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you.
– Psalm 55:22
Once you have given your worries / stress / etc. to God, leave it there. Trust that He will take care of what He has promised to take care of. Our Lord will not fail you.
Remember, God cares for you so much - infinitely more than anyone else ever can! Keep praying for Him to reveal His great love for you - and learn to give it to God. ◡̈ This applies to worries both big and small.
A great place to start is to take a piece of paper and write down all the promises God has given to us in His word. Keep diving deep into the Bible as you discover more and more of His promises each day! ◡̈
Over time, this will give you a huge amount of peace as you realize that God is truly taking care of you, guiding you amid all your worries and anxiety. You are never alone; He is always with you as He helps you release your fears to Him, a little at a time. ◡̈
2. Know that God is in control
If you often find yourself worrying about the same thing over and over, tell yourself this:
"I refuse to worry about (fill in the blank with what you are anxious about). I won't let this weigh me down anymore - because I trust God is taking care of it!"
Philippians 4:19 says:
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
Yes, that's right! Our Lord has assured us that He will provide for all our needs, according to His will amid our faith in Jesus.
Thus, you are safe to put your trust in Him. Give it to God, and may His peace that surpasses all understanding fill your days with hope and give your mind freedom from worry (Philippians 4:7).
