How to Have Faith: A Journey Through Biblical Heroes

How to have faith?

How to have faith? What is Faith?

Before we can explore how to have faith, we first need to address what is faith? Faith is more than mere belief; it's active trust.

Think of faith like a bridge. It's the structure that connects you to God, a path built on promises and experiences that have proven trustworthy. Just like a bridge needs a solid foundation and strong materials to stay upright, faith rests on the character of God and is strengthened by our experiences with Him.

When storms come, the bridge might sway, but its foundation keeps it anchored. Similarly, faith may wobble in life's challenges, but it remains secure when anchored in God.

Faith is not blind optimism or naïve positivity. It's a calculated trust in God's character, knowing that He is good, loving, and sovereign over all things.

How to have faith? Let's go on a journey through these biblical heroes!

Abraham — The Father of Faith

Abraham was asked to leave his home and go to an unknown land. Despite his age and lack of an heir, he trusted God's promise that he'd become the father of many nations. This man faced a journey filled with unknowns but emerged victorious through faith. His faith was later tested when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the son of promise. Abraham obeyed, and it resulted in God providing a ram as a substitute.

📖 Genesis 15:6

How to have faith, Lesson for Us:
Sometimes faith means believing in God’s promises, even when they seem impossible to fulfill.

Moses — Faith Amidst Adversity

Called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses chose suffering over the comfort of Pharaoh’s palace because he looked ahead to the reward. Despite his doubts, Moses led the Israelites through plagues, the Red Sea, and the wilderness, all by faith.

📖 Hebrews 11:24-27

How to have faith, Lesson for Us:
His story tells us that faith often demands hard choices, pushes us out of our comfort zones to achieve God's purpose. And by doing so, we become instruments of divine change, purpose, and miracles.

David — A Man After God’s Own Heart

David was just a shepherd boy, but his faith was king-sized. He faced Goliath armed with a sling and unshakeable faith in God. His faith wasn't in his weapon but in God.

📖 1 Samuel 17:45-47

How to have faith,  Lesson for Us:
His courage shows us that faith can conquer even the most terrifying giants. And that true faith places its full confidence in God and not in earthly resources.

Rahab — Faith that Protects

Rahab was a Canaanite harlot who hid Israelite spies, risking her life because she believed their God was the true God. Her faith not only saved her family but also made her an ancestor of Jesus.

📖 Joshua 2:9-11

How to have faith,  Lesson for Us:
Her story proves that faith offers grace and redemption, regardless of your past.

Peter — Faith that Walks on Water

Peter, one of Jesus' closest disciples, is renowned for his impulsive and passionate nature. When he saw Jesus walking on water, Peter stepped out of the boat and, for a moment, defied nature by walking on water too. Though he began to sink when doubt crept in, his initial act was a bold display of faith.

📖 Matthew 14:28-31

How to have faith, Lesson for Us:
Peter's daring step out of the boat serves not just as a testament to what faith can achieve, but more importantly, it points to a Jesus who rescues and strengthens our faith even when we falter.

Esther — Faith that Risks it
All Esther was a Jewish queen in a Persian kingdom, facing the extermination of her people. Courageously, she chose to risk her life by approaching the king uninvited, an act punishable by death. Her faith and courage saved an entire nation.

📖 Esther 4:16

How to have faith, Lesson for Us: Esther's story illustrates that sometimes faith requires us to risk everything for a greater cause, even when it's uncertain, trusting that God is in control.

Daniel — Unwavering Faith

Daniel was an official in Babylon who refused to compromise his faith even in a foreign land. He continued to pray to God despite knowing it could lead to his death. His unshakable faith resulted in God saving him from the lion's den.

📖 Daniel 6:10-23

How to have faith, Lesson for Us:
Daniel's faith reveals a God who saves, serving not just for our benefit but as a testimony that directs others to the love and grace of Jesus.

I hope these stories give you a faith boost.

I don't know where you're at right now, how your recent days or months have felt, or if your faith is waning. But if you find yourself in a challenging season, may I gently encourage you to step into the warmth of God's incredible light?

Begin to see your situation and yourself through God's lens.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

Stubbornly hold onto this truth because that's where our hope lies. When life throws curveballs, remember that you serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His promises never fail; His love never ends.

Faith is not just a one-time decision; it's a lifetime journey. It requires action, risks, and perseverance. Keep walking, keep trusting, and let your faith arise. 💛
